Programs for Women & Children

Sister’s House
provides a supportive living environment exclusively for women without children, fostering a sense of community among those participating in the program. This unique housing model helps single women build connections and mutual support as they transition to independent living. Women who join Sister’s House often come from other housing or recovery programs or an Emergency Shelter. These off-site apartments, owned and operated by Light of Life, offer a safe and nurturing space for women to continue their recovery journey.

Program Length: 18-24 months

Scattered Sites Housing
for women offers subsidized housing in partnership with landlords across Allegheny County. This program is specifically designed for women with children, providing them with a safe and stable living environment while they engage in the recovery program. Case managers work closely with clients, assisting them in connecting with landlords and signing leases. With subsidized rent for 18–24 months, this program eliminates a significant financial barrier, allowing women to focus on their recovery journey and rebuild relationships with their children.

Program Length: 18-24 months

Women & Children Partial
is offered to women coming from an outside facility looking to join Light of Life's Long-Term Programs. W&C Partial allows someone to join our educational programming, attending at least twice a week while continuing to follow their current facility’s protocol. At the discretion of Light of Life staff and the referring partnering agency, they determine when the client can then now transition out of Partial Phase and enter into Full Phase- giving them the opportunity to join either Sister’s Recovery House or Scattered Sites Housing.

Program Length: 6-12 Months

“I’ve been using drugs since I was thirteen years old. I didn’t trust anyone before I came to Light of Life. I thought I was damaged goods. They taught me how to love myself as a person and as a woman. Light of Life provided me structure I needed to stay clean. It brought me closer to my kids and closer to God. Strength comes in numbers and when it comes to the other women in the program... it’s a sisterhood I’ve never had."
